Briefly about the vehicle
Bars-8 is a Ukrainian special-purpose armored vehicle built on a commercial frame chassis with all-wheel drive. The vehicle combines production units of a civilian platform with an integrated armored hull, which significantly changes the load on all main assemblies.
The vehicle operates under conditions of increased weight, intensive driving mode, and difficult road surfaces, which determines the specifics of maintenance and spare parts selection.
Base chassis and unit foundation
Bars-8 was created on commercial diesel platforms, including:
Dodge Ram (Heavy Duty series)
Isuzu NPR / NQR
other frame diesel platforms depending on modification
This means that:
the engine, gearbox, and part of the running gear have a civilian unit base
at the same time, due to armor protection, the load on the units is significantly higher than nominal
That is why either reinforced OEM solutions are used for operation, or alternative components with increased service life are selected.
Design differences of the armored vehicle
Main differences of Bars-8 from the base chassis:
1. Reinforced frame construction
The armored hull is integrated into the frame, which changes the center of gravity and the load on the front axle.
